Hiring Trends

Legal hiring in New York is consistently strong—and highly competitive. This is a city that commands  attorneys with the best credentials who work the longest hours in the country for top shelf, powerhouse clients. Law firm cultures run the gamut from the most prestigious “white shoe” firms to influential boutiques. Practice areas that dominate the hiring market tend to be in the areas of M&A, finance, and IP. Positions in Finance are always in demand, more so than in any other market in the country. Corporate hiring, as in other markets, is the top priority for firms right now, particularly in the areas of M&A and private equity. Transactional real estate hiring (and real estate finance) is the strongest here than in any other market as is bankruptcy hiring. There are consistent needs for technology transactions attorneys and labor & employment associates as well. Transactional tax hiring is also very healthy.

With more than 22 million people in its metropolitan area, New York boasts a cultural authority and impact unmatched by any other city in the world. The epicenter of fashion, finance, media, entertainment, the arts, and cuisine, New York pulses with an energy all its own. Tourists and locals alike flock to its many landmarks but discovering the subtler aspects of New York’s rich neighborhoods is equally rewarding. The greening of the city under Mayor Bloomberg and the city’s now rich array of seasonal and locally sourced cuisine and artisanal food and drinks have earned the city a new following and multiple accolades. In addition to its hundreds of existing landmarks, the arrival of new theaters, cultural centers, and sports arenas make it a great time to be in New York.
