Hiring Trends

Legal hiring in Chicago can be tricky. Despite the fact that the city is one of the major legal markets in the country, there is a certain protocol to applying to firms. Established relationships are valued, and there is a certain formality and discretion that is expected on the part of the job seeker. Hiring trends in practice areas are following the same course as the other major markets: corporate (including leveraged finance, debt finance, and commercial finance positions), ERISA, real estate, patent prosecution, and IP litigation. This is one of the few markets where healthcare hiring is also fairly consistent in both the regulatory and transactional sectors. Labor & employment hiring is also very strong currently, as is litigation.


Chicago is a destination of choice for lovers of art, food, music, and sports. The city boasts some of the most spectacular public art and architecture in the country and has a culinary scene that ranges from the world’s best deep-dish pizza to outstanding Polish, Swedish, Vietnamese, and Mexican cuisine. Live music festivals abound: the city hosts over 200 such shows between March and September, including Blues Fest and Lollapalooza. Chicagoans are also die-hard sports fans. Whether you’re cheering on the Bears, joining the baseball crowd at Wrigley Field, or watching from a bar stool, expect raucous crowds and unbridled enthusiasm.
